By VE Schwab
The second in Schwab’s Villains series doesn’t disappoint. This installment has us trying to figure out what is wrong with Victor and more importantly, how to fix it. As in all great comic book adversarial relationships, the infamous Eli makes another appearance as well.
There is also a new trio of characters we meet, including a very impressive woman, Marcella, who is tired of living on the sidelines of her pre-EO life. Now that she has ExtraOrdinary powers, she is determined to be the headliner she always knew she could be, and woe to any man attempting to get in her path.
We also learn some of the origins of Eli, and they are as twisted as we feared. Magically, Schwab allows us to start to feel some pity for him, which keeps us engrossed. Sydney’s motivations and actions are also explored further.

Pros & Cons & Potential Spoilers
Pros
- Strong, kickass female, actually burning her own trail…might also be a sociopath, but hey, no one is perfect
- We get more of a glimpse into Sydney’s head space and what defines family
- Quite a few escapes and suspense – the drama keeps us reading for more
Cons
- Timelines and constantly switching between them gets confusing…I understand the format but it is not user friendly
- Humans, plain and ordinary, are the super villains
- I really liked Dominic, and take his tragedy personally
